Bora Bora

Bora Bora is an island many have heard about but few are geographically familiar with. Located in the Pacific Ocean between Australia and South America, Bora Bora is part of French Polynesia. The circumference of the island can be driven by car in about an hour. Don’t let the small size fool you- what it lacks in size is made up in pure splendor.

Perhaps the most notable feature of Bora Bora is the scenery. As seen from an aerial view, Bora Bora has famously and rightfully been described as “a tiny emerald in a setting of turquoise, encircled by a sheltering necklace of sparkling pearls”. The clear, blue-green waters lapping at the white sandy beaches will truly take your breath away.

Natural wildlife is in abundance in Bora Bora, particularly sea life. Point Matira offers the opportunity to view manta rays. Moving through the water with agility and grace, some of the large beasts, particularly the gray ray, enjoy being pet during the ray feeding excursions that are available to tourists. The Coral Garden, located on the southeast side of the island, displays a natural, underwater wonderland of fish and coral.

For the traveler seeking a little more excitement, visit the White Valley, home of barracudas gray sharks. Or take part in a shark feeding excursion. During the excursion you will step in to chest-deep water and watch as local divers feed reef sharks, up to 5 feet long, by hand.

The Bora Bora lagoon presents majestic view of Mount Otemanu. Tropical palms, hibiscus and other exotic fauna surround the lagoon, leaving visitors feel as if they are on their own private island. Stay in a luxurious resort or rent out your own private bungalow surrounded by the water and gear up to… relax.
