Vacation Homes

There are two different types of vacation homes. One is a second home that is purchased to be used while on vacation. The second is a rental property that a person rents out to visiting travelers.  Depending on your budget and time you spend in the desired area, both can be ideal.

If you have the funds, a second home or “vacation home” can be a dream come true. People who frequent the same area several times a year find that simply owning a second home is more efficient than renting. The second home can be in the shape of a cabin, condo or anything else that is desired. The homeowners have the option of then renting out the property when they are not planning on using it. This is a ways to help compensate for the money spent purchasing the house.

Vacation homes that are built in popular tourist areas are built with tourists in mind. They are often located beach front, lake front, near a ski resort, on a golf course or in a tourist community. The price often reflects this as well, since it is assumed people in the market to purchase a second home will be willing to pay more for the tourist-y aspects of vacation home living.

Vacation homes that are rented can be found through a travel agent or through an online search. An online search does not come with the same guarantee that a travel agent does, so beware. There are websites that verify rentals though, so if you are comfortable with finding a rental home on your own, start on the internet.

You may also be comfortable finding your own rental if you are very familiar with the area or have had family or friends visit the area prior. Using a travel agent may give you more peace of mind as there is someone to fall back on should something be wrong with the vacation rental home.
